NonoDaily serves up one nonogram a day. If you have played Picross, you already know the deal: a blank grid, a row of numbers beside every row and above every column, and a hidden pixel-art picture that appears only if you read the clues correctly. The site pitches itself at both new and experienced players, with a tutorial for beginners and a large archive behind the daily puzzle.
How to play NonoDaily
A NonoDaily puzzle is pure logic: the numbers tell you everything, and no guessing is required.
- Open NonoDaily to load today's puzzle. The grid size and date are shown above it.
- Read the clues. Each number is a run of filled squares, in order, with at least one empty square between runs. A row marked "7 2" holds a block of seven and then a block of two.
- Fill squares you are sure of with the pencil tool.
- Switch to the cross tool to mark squares you know are empty.
- Keep working rows and columns against each other until every clue is satisfied and the hidden picture is revealed.
Tips for NonoDaily
- Start with the big numbers. When a run is longer than half the line, its possible positions overlap, and the overlapping squares must be filled.
- Mark empty squares. Crosses are as useful as fills: they shrink the space left for the remaining runs and make the next deduction visible.
- Check finished lines. Once a row's runs are all placed, cross out the rest of it straight away.
- Use Undo freely. Undo and Redo sit beside the grid, and Reset must be held down, so a mistake or stray tap is easy to recover from.
- Do the tutorial first if you are new. The Learn To Play panel and Tutorial cover the basics before you face a full grid.
First impressions
The interface is clean and friendly, with a cartoon cat mascot and big, easy-to-hit cells. Overlapping long runs gives you a few safe squares straight away, and the cross mode keeps the rest of the logic tidy. The puzzle we played was a 12 x 12 grid with a timer running in the corner. The changing grid sizes mean some days are quick and others take a proper sit-down.
Nonograms take some getting used to, so absolute beginners should start with the tutorial before the daily grid.
