The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008)
Why this is the answer (spoilers)
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a 2008 British drama directed by Mark Herman, adapted from John Boyne's 2006 novel. Asa Butterfield plays the young son of a Nazi officer.
The clips we saw had a muted, 1940s look: a woman in a cardigan in a plain interior and a young officer in a grey uniform with collar insignia, which points firmly to a wartime German setting.
Tip: Flickle lists it under the UK spelling with "Pyjamas"; typing "Boy in the" brings it up in the suggestions.
